Towards a Decentralized Geospatial Web
This preprint maps decentralized-web techniques onto GIScience through three primitives -- proof-of-location, verifiable geocomputation, and peer-to-peer spatial data management.
Purpose
GIScience had no shared frame for what decentralized-web techniques could offer spatial systems, or what risks they carry. This preprint proposes one.
Approach
A preprint setting out three foundational primitives -- proof-of-location, verifiable geocomputation, and peer-to-peer spatial data management -- and examining the opportunities and risks of each for the discipline.
Status
Preprint on OSF; presented at GISRUK 2025. The tracks on this page map onto its primitives.
